Gillian Travis

Gillian Travis is a textile artist based near Halifax. She specialises in print, paint, felt and machine stitch to create bright, vibrant and unique pieces of work.

“I have a lively and energetic approach to my work I love vibrant colours, pattern and print, machine stitch, natural fibres e.g. felt, cotton and linen and ethnic textiles. I am a textile artist based in a small village in the South Pennine's near Halifax. I have a studio near my home that I have developed to accommodate creative textile classes. I specialise in print, paint, felt and machine stitch. I sell my work but mainly use it as teaching samples of which I have a vast collection. I love to pass on my skills, enthusiasm and ideas to students. Colour, pattern and travel have always been the biggest influences in my work and I love ethnic textiles and floral images, I am an enthusiastic traveller and still enjoy seeing the world with a rucksack on my back.”

Here is the book that Gillian’s followers have long been awaiting. Full of vibrant, evocative photographs, Gillian leads us around Europe and even further afield. As she continues her research into ethnic embroidery, she sees, snaps and sketches, to produce a lively travel journal.
On returning to her West Yorkshire studio, Gillian uses her observations to create stunning pieces of work, with fabric, paint and stitch. Often her techniques are innovative but this book is no instruction manual. Rather, it is a delightful cornucopia of colourful images which will, no doubt, inspire all those who delve between it’s covers.
In this book by award winning Textile Artist Gillian Travis readers are taken on a journey through Europe and beyond. We can see the creative journey Gillian takes to make her embroideries and quilts through colourful images of her photographs, sketchbooks and samples.
