John Sibson is a figurative a painter working full time from his studio high on the Pennine fellside in the village of Hilton, near Appleby in Cumbria.
He became better known for watercolours but as result of summer school at the Slade in London now enjoys developing a distinctive style in oils and acrylics. This has also made him enjoy much more “plein air” painting.
Over many years he has had a multitude of one man and shared exhibitions in galleries, mostly in the North of England, but also in Scotland and as far afield as Spain and New Zealand.
In the past he has exhibited in the Mall galleries in London in the Royal Society of Marine Artists Open exhibitions and in the Houses of Parliament and more recently he has had regular success in having work accepted for, and been a prizewinner in the Cumbria Open Artists exhibitions.
John says of his work “I have no great philosophical “artspeak” about my paintings – I just paint what I see and how I see it, and let the paintings speak for themselves.”
