Roger Davies

Roger Davies filming with the BBC

Brighouse based artist Roger Davies has never looked back since he starred in an episode of the BBC One TV programme Home Is Where The Art Is and his reputation in the art world is rapidly on the rise.

Roger is well known locally as a singer songwriter, but he decided last year to launch his art career having been trained in art before his music career took off. He has never looked back since with a series of sell out shows.

Steven Lord, gallery owner said “I’ve known Roger for many years and it’s been amazing to see his art career take off. He has developed a unique style which really captures our local community and people love his work.”

Much of the artwork in this exhibition celebrates aspects of his locality featuring subjects which people will easily recognise.  Some of the paintings celebrate Huddersfield Town whilst others .  In others, we see well known landmarks such as Castle Hill or Bettys Café.

Some paintings in the show are presented as a tribute to Roger’s local art hero and old friend, the late ‘Pennine Landscape Painter’ Peter Brook.  In a series of pictures, Roger can be seen watching Peter sketching in various locations.

Previously, Roger Davies has enjoyed three sold out exhibitions at the Harrison Lord Gallery.  During lock down Roger has continued to paint with renewed enthusiasm. He is looking forward to finding out how they will be received.  He says:

“I love having the opportunity to exhibit my artwork and show them to people who are interested in my paintings.  My latest work is some of my best work so far and I hope people will be able to tell how much fun I had creating it.”
